Family is essential to the success of clients that attend Renaissance Ranch. The disease of addiction affects all members of the family. As a result, it is vitally important to have all relevant family members involved in their own process of individual recovery.

Chemical dependency has been classified by the recovery community as a family disease.  In the 1960's upon treating alcoholics, they found family members suffering from similar symptoms as the identified patient and developed the term codependency.  Codependency is the other side of the coin of chemical dependency.  We offer education and suggestions for ways in which to treat this part of the family disease.

The topics we will discuss will include but not be limited to the following:

• Spirituality and the 12 Steps
• Codependency and its many faces and aspects and how to treat it
• The disease concept of shame and how it impacts the family
• Anger management
• Identification, process and management of emotions
• Journaling
• Bibliotherapy  
• Character defects and the 10th Step Nightly Inventory
• How to involve yourself in The 12 Step support group

We expect all Family members to be anxiously engaged in “their” own recovery. We contract with each participant in our Family Treatment program to regularly attend 12 Step meetings, get a sponsor and attend individual or marriage therapy where necessary. Our approach typically involves treatment for spouses and in some cases immediate family. 

After collaboration with the client and his primary counselor, family members are invited to attend. There is no additional cost for family members to attend our groups.

Groups are held every Wednesday evening from 7:00pm-8:30pm.
